Filament vs a custom admin panel

The real question is not whether you can build the back office yourself. It is whether custom admin work is where your product should be spending design and engineering budget.

Filament is compelling because it compresses a huge amount of internal-tool and admin-surface work into a mature, Laravel-native path. That is often exactly what a growing product team needs.

A custom admin panel becomes rational when the operations model itself is product-defining, highly unusual, or tightly coupled to workflows generic admin abstractions do not express well.

Most teams should earn the right to go custom. Until then, buying speed is usually the smarter move.
