Pest vs PHPUnit for Laravel teams

This is not really a war between test runners. It is a choice between two styles of expressing the same discipline.

PHPUnit remains the baseline of the PHP testing ecosystem and gives teams the most direct access to the underlying feature set. Pest builds on that foundation with a cleaner, more fluent authoring style that many Laravel teams find easier to read and maintain.

The decision is usually social, not technical. If your team writes and reviews tests more consistently in Pest, that matters. If your codebase is already deep in PHPUnit conventions and extensions, that matters too.

The wrong move is treating syntax preference like architecture. The right move is picking the style that helps your team write more trustworthy tests more often.
